Privacy Statement GMObelus is firmly committed to the privacy of its registrants and readers, and makes careful, restricted use of information gathered. Those who register with GMObelus are encouraged to identify themselves accurately. This information is visible to the Editor in Chief, but not to readers or commentators. Registrants are entitled to use a "screen name" which does not personally identify them to other readers. It is up to the registrant to decide if they want to be known by their actual name, and this decision should be carefully considered. GMObelus respects a registrant's decision regarding online identity, whatever that decision might be. Upon demand by a public authority or official which, in the sole discretion of the Editor in Chief, has jurisdiction of the subject matter and a valid claim. 2. If necessary for website maintenance or repair. The list of registered users will not be sold or rented to any third party. Bondware uses your IP address to help diagnose problems with its server, and to administer the website. Your IP address is also used to gather broad demographic information. This website makes use of the technology known as "cookies". A cookie is a small data file that certain websites write to your hard drive when you visit them. A cookie file can contain information such as a user ID that the site uses to track the pages you have visited on our site. The only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply yourself. A cookie cannot read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. GMO (noun) 1. An acronym for the term, 'Genetically Modified Organism'. 2. A plant, animal or microbe with a genetic code which has been intentionally altered, such as through forced evolution (see selective breeding); through random mutations induced with radiation or chemicals (see mutagenesis); or through the selective transfer, promoting or silencing of specific genes (see genetic engineering). 3. Most generally, any descendant of a primordial urbiote. (See evolution.)
obelus (noun) A dagger-shaped typographical symbol [ † ] which directs a reader's attention to important matters. From the Greek, obelus, literally, a roasting skewer.
GMObelus (noun, proper) A publication directing the attention of readers to the latest news and commentary regarding the development and use of genetically modified organisms in agriculture and related fields.
peer (noun) 1. One of two or more computers sending data to each other over the same network. 2. One of two or more persons sharing information with each other over such a network. (See also, 'remote peer'.)
peer review (noun phrase) A process by which peers review information shared over a network, rather than each other. (Compare, argumentum ad hominem.)
